PRAISES: Praise for Dustin Jower’s brother and wife being able to adopt a little girl, Shelby Grace.
Praise that Jennifer Plowden’s biopsy came back negative!!!
Praise Lauren Hipp is doing better, won’t need to have tonsils removed, and can wait til summer for other tests.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Chad & Tiffany Ballard: Pray for Chad who had surgery for a broken wrist 4/1/09, for speedy & excellent recovery.

Bryan Bargainer: Pray for a safe pregnancy for Melanie who is carrying triplets.

Bob Blakeney: Pray for Mitch Schuster, physician friend, who is recovering from a brain infection. It will be a slow recovery.
Pray for healing for his Uncle Reid who fell out of a deer stand.

Sara Blakeney: Pray for Stephanie & Casey Alums, adopting little boy from Guatemala. Pray all finalizes soon.
Pray for neighbors, Barry & Rebecca, adopting a 12 year old Ukrainian orphan boy. Adoption problems arising w/ Ukraine.

Casey Blythe: Please pray for physcal strength and healing for his cousin, Chase, as he battles eye cancer a second time, and
emotional strength for the family! May they feel and know God’s presence each and every day.

Lincoln Clark: Pray for his student whose father lost his job over Spring Break and has now been diagnosed with brain cancer. Lincoln’s student is struggling with all this stress and worry.
Pray for school team member, Sally, whose 4-year old daughter, Olivia, was molested by her ex-husband.

Nicole Collier: Pray for help and solutions for friends having marriage difficulties.
Pray for Jana Womack, BP issues, had C-section 3/19/09, pray that all will be well with mother & child.
Pray for Tyesha Jefferson, whose 3 month old son passed away. He was a “Footprints” baby in the NICU.
Pray for employment opportunities to open soon for her father and brother.

Greg & Kelly Ellis: Pray for Kelly’s brother, Beau, and wife, Brittany, who went into early labor in Wash. D.C. - almost 30 wks. Pray for
baby Gaines to stay in womb; for Beau as he commutes to D.C. , & their 17 month old at home. Pray for Kelly’s
mom who is helping out as needed to care for one or more of them.
Pray for Kelly’s g-ma who fell and hit her head and is in Brookwood. Pray for her safety and health.
Pray for wisdom and strength in their dealings with Kelly’s father struggling with financial problems & avoiding arrest.
Pray for their relationship with Greg’s parents, for peace and how to best deal with them.

Billy Fain: Pray for his sister and brother-in-law in Chatanooga, TN. His B-in-law is addicted to pain killers and the family is scared
for the safety of Billy’s sister, Brenda, and the children. Pray for God’s intervention into getting him help.

Kimberly Fain: Pray for Kimberly’s job opportunities as her job is being phased out - hopefully a new position at Helena Elementary.
Daughter Allie’s friend, Madison, loves church. Pray her love for church with overflow to her parents & they might come.
Pray for the family of a girl on her soccer team... the father was recently laid off from his job.

Kim Gossett: Pray for the family of a co-teacher’s niece: the mother (niece) was killed and her 1-year-old son, Bailey is fine; her 3-year-old son, Harris, is in serious condition. Pray for them as they heal and adjust to life without their mother.
Pray for two students at school were in a car wreck. One died, the other has brain injuries. Pray for Zwack family that lost their child and for Stewart family whose child is in ICU. Pray for students, teachers & friends grieving.

Kristin Henderson: Pray for her father, Scott Marshall, battling cancer & has had 3 heart attacks and suffering with side effects of
treatment. Pray for his strength, improved health, and positive outlook on life, & for encouragement for family.
Pray for strength & healing for co-worker, Angie Ford, battling breast cancer; she is main care giver for her parents.
Pray for her boss whose husband passed away suddenly. Her boss is also friends with Kristin’s mom, so this loss hits
close to home for her as she helps Kristin’s dad deal with battling cancer.

Cindy Hipp: Pray for daughter Lauren to stay well and get stronger. She is doing better!
Her grandmother, Dollie Hansford, passed away 4/6/09. Pray for peace & strength for their family.
Pray for grandfather, Brinnon Mahan, whose condition is stable and he’s in a nursing home presently.

Matt Hodges: Pray for his brother Adam who is trying to break an addiction to oxycotton and is finally seeking help. Pray for his ability to do what it takes to rid these issues from his life and come closer to God in the process. Prayers need for Matt’s parents too.
Increase prayers for friend Wesley, who was sober for 1 year but relapsed. Pray for freedom from addiction.

Michelle & Dustin Jowers: Pray that God would help them to conceive and have a child.
Pray for safe and long pregnancy for Meredith and Sam Gambrell who are expecting triplets.
Pray for strength for Dustin’s dad who has battled cancer since 2003 & is taking chemo.

Will & Kelly Landess: Pray for Will’s step-brother, Alan , that he’ll receive a kidney soon & not have to go on dialysis.
Pray for other step-brother, Mike, who may suffer from same disease as Alan, but refuses to be tested; pray for courage for him to get tested.

Brian & Emily McLendon: Pray for Clay, 5-year-old son of friends, Amy & Herb. He was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Pray for all.

Matt Morris: Pray for healing & peace for his mother’s father, Jack Early, whose cancer has spread to his ribs. May face chemo.
Pray for his sister who is due to deliver her baby this week... that all will go well for mother and child.
Pray for all those effected by the current economic situation.

Shannon Moseley: Pray for her mother, recovering from shoulder surgery and surgery for a broken ankle last week!

Vallie Pate: Pray for high school friend going as a missionary into Cambodia to help rescue children enslaved in prostitution.

Aaron & Kelly Randall: Pray for peace and comfort for Aaron’s friend who lost a friend to suicide. Pray for peace and comfort for another friend whose 2-year old daughter passed away 1/2/09.
Pray for friend, Ashley Green, whose husband died at age 32. she has a 1 year old child.
Pray for Aaron’s grandmother, 94, who has memory loss…for God’s peace & comfort for all of them.

Kelley Romonowski: Pray for Stephen & Caroline Strickland & 2 children. Stephen had massive stroke; pray for total recovery for him!
Stephen is in a hospital 3 hours away from home, so it’s been difficult for his wife & children...pray for them.
Pray for her grandmother who has Parkinsons and has taken a turn for the worse. Pray for God’s comfort and peace.
Daughter Ann Scott’s classmate’s father passed away suddenly; pray for peace & comfort for their mother Greta & 3 children.

Ashley Ross: Pray for her as she adjusts to going back to work. Pray baby Aubrey adjusts well too.
Pray for her father who was laid off from his job, that he’ll find new employment soon & not get discouraged. His best friend
just died suddenly from a heart attack. Pray for peace for all of them.
Pray for her friend’s sister who is preg. with first child... child may have trisomy 18. Pray that doctors are wrong.

Brad and Courtney Snuggs: Pray for the Sizemore Family’s 20-week ultrasound to see if their baby’s kidneys are enlarged; they lost their first baby to enlarged kidneys at 20 weeks.
Pray for Courtney who has to return to work soon and won’t be able to stay home with Shelby right now.
Pray for Kimberly Bingham who had a tumor removed last week.

Randy Snuggs: Pray for Gracie Ann Poole, 1 yr old, who has been very sick but is improving now.

Harris Wheeler: Pray for our son Paul las he goes through Boot Camp at Ft. Jackson, SC.
Pray for Kelsey Jones, 16 yr old single mom, was hospitalized twice with drug abuse, & for wisdom for her parents.
Her parents just discovered that she’s pregnant again.

Kevin Williams: Pray for him as he searches for a new job, that God would open the best opportunity for him.

This is our newest study. We discussed the first lessson (Orthodox) on Sunday, March 15th. Our next chapter will be on Catholicisim.

*DINKS Mission for March - Church of the Reconciler. We will be putting snack bags together on Saturday, March 28th. We are also going to the church service on Sunday, March 29th. Please feel free to sign up for either or both of these. Childcare will be provided on the 29th.

I know it seems early, but it's time to draw again for the next DINKS supper club. These will take place during the month of January, so we will draw soon for those that are interested. Please respond by this Friday, December 5 to Kelly Ellis at ellisfamily@bellsouth.net if you would like to be included in the next supper club. We will draw names over the weekend and announce your groups in class on Sunday the 7th and via email. Hopefully this will give everyone plenty of time to decide on a get together in January that works for the whole group!!

Red Cross Blood Drive this Sunday

The American Red Cross will be having a blood drive on Sunday, November 23rd from 9:00 - 1:00 at RUMC. Please consider donating blood - all it will cost you is a little of your time. This is a great way we can each give back to our community. There is always a need for blood, especially during the holiday season.

We will begin our next study on Sunday, November 9th. It is called "Christmas Incarnation" by Dr. Ralph F. Wilson. It will be a four-week study - although we will take off the week of November 23rd due to expected travel plans for Thanksgiving. The books are $5 and can be purchased from Cyndi and Harris in class.

We hope to see everyone in class Sunday morning.

Please bring Fall/Halloween candy for Trunk-or-Treat which is coming up on Sunday. You can bring it to class on Sunday morning or bring it to Sara or myself Wednesday night. We want our "trunk" to be awesome!!!

We have decided on our next study. It will be "Christmas Incarnation". We will be ordering books soon. This will be a great lead into the Christmas season.

This Sunday (October 26th) will be a social/missions Sunday. Matt and Ginger will be discussing many important mission opportunities that we can ALL get involved with. Come with an open mind and an open heart!!!

Bob Blakeney: Pray for healing for co-worker, Marie Irby, in critical condition @ UAB.
Sara Blakeney: Pray for a friend Sam & her mother as they grieve for her father/husband, John Woodham.
Pray for their family as they care for Grandmother who has dementia. Pray they can find ways for her to stay at home.
Dino Booen: Aunt Gayle Headrick has kidney stones and blockages... pray for her treatment and healing.
Nicole Collier: Joyce Knox & healing for her baby Janiya who has infection & gastro problems & trans. to Children’s Hosp.
Pray for Footprints, a group that ministers to NICU families, as they try to get it established here.
Pray for her cousin’s son, Chase, battling & recovering from intestinal problems since birth.
Patti Dodson: Her Uncle passed away recently. Please pray for peace & comfort for her Aunt and family as they grieve for him.
Greg & Kelly Ellis: Pray for Chris & Megan Wells in Atlanta who are going through a divorce.
Praise for the Penns,- Continue to pray for a healthy preg. for mom, Cynthia (26 wks preg), and for her to go at least 28 wks..
Pray for wisdom and strength in their dealings with Kelly’s father and for his faith to grow.
Pray for their relationship with Greg’s parents, for peace and how to best deal with them.
Brandon Gossett: Pray for friend, Art Jones’ family as they grieve his sudden death. Pray for God’s peace & comfort for wife & child.
Kristin Henderson: Pray for Gina & Phillip Durst, returning from Vietnam after finalizing the adoption of their new child.
Pray for continued improvement for her father recovering from liver surgery; he’ll resume chemo once drains come out.
Pray for Amy & Lucas McDonald whose baby daughter passed away in her sleep... she went to Patrick’s daycare.
Cindy Hipp: Pray for continued improvement and weight gain for Lauren. She’s been sick with c-diff and home recovering now.
Pray for family of fellow teacher, Linda McCormick, who passed away suddenly; has daughter & husband.
Pray for grandfather, Brinnon Mahan, back in hospital; possibly had heart attack & infection. He’s unresponsive.
Pray for grandmother, Dollie Hansford, & Uncle Keith Hansford, both in the long-term care unit of the hospital.
Matt Hodges: Pray for friend Wesley, who was sober for 1 year, but now back in rehab. Pray for freedom from addiction.
Michelle & Dustin Jowers: Pray that God would help them to conceive and have a child.
Pray for Dustin’s dad: battled cancer since 2003 & is taking chemo, & for God’s comfort as he grieves for his wife.
Will Landess: Pray for God’s comfort for Barry & Vanessa Thompson who lost their 16 year old son several weeks ago.
Brian & Emily McLendon: Pray for Brian as he searches for new job... pray for best opportunity to open up soon.
Pray for Dr. Lewis’ family whose 34 year old son was found dead. He leaves behind 3 small children & wife.
Pray for Amy & Herb, close friends, going through a lot of marriage issues right now. Praise they are moving in right direction.
Holly & Kyle Barker, 24 wks pregnant with twins.....continue to pray all goes well for this pregnancy.

Aaron & Kelly Randall: Pray for Aaron’s cousin, Tatum (8) thrown from horse; she shattered her femur; pray for her to heal well.

Pray for friend, Ashley Green, whose husband died at age 32. she has a 1 year old child.

Pray for Gracie Ann Poole, 9-mo old, who is very sick (arteries are restricted). Pray successful treatment continues.

Bronner's Blankets

The DINKS Ladies will be having another blanket party for "Bronner's Blankets". It will be Tuesday, October 21st at 6:30 at the home of Cynthia Williams. BYOB and an appetizer. If you can't make the blanket making but would still like to help, we need one yard of fabric (fleece type) for each blanket.

It was a beautiful day for the pumpkin patch. Hopefully, everyone had a great time. We will be studying Chapter nine in class tomorrow. We sure hope to see everyone there!!!

PRAISES: Praise that Evan Holt Taylor was born 9/24, weighing 9 lbs 11 oz. Everyone is doing well!
Praise that Kelley Romonowski’s grandfather did not have liver cancer!
Praise for Kristin Kettle & her cancer journey. A lot of her tumors have shrunk in half!! Praise God.
PRAYER REQUESTS:
Sara Blakeney: Pray for a friend Sam & father, John Woodham, as he has bone marrow biopsy. Pray he doesn’t have leukemia.
Pray for their family as they care for Grandmother who has dementia. Pray they can find ways for her to stay at home.

Mission opportunity - NICU blankets

The DINKS Ladies will be making blankets for NICU babies on Tuesday, September 30th at 6:30 at the home of Michelle Jowers. The mission is actually through Shade's Mountain Baptist Church and is called Bronner's Blankets in honor of Bronner Burgess.

No sewing skills are required. BYOB and a snack to share. We will have some great "girl" time while helping out babies of the Birmingham area. We hope to see all of you there!!!

Urban Ministries

For the month of September, we will collecting canned meat to give to Urban Ministries. This begins a new chapter for the DINKS. This is our first "new" mission. It has been discussed in class that we don't do as many missions as we would like, so the Hodges have come up with several great ideas for us - this being the first. Please bring any type of canned meat to the class during this month!!!

We completed Chapter Six in our Max Lucado book on Galatians today. Be ready for Chapter Seven next Sunday!

Our new officers will take their positions affective September 1st. They are as follows:

President - Bob Blakeney
Treasurer - Michelle Jowers
Social - Sara Blakeney and Kelly Ellis
Missions - Matt and Ginger Hodges
Follow up - Melanie Barganier
Sunshine - Shannon Dillard
Blog Manager - Kimberly Fain

Sara and Kelly have put together an awesome social calendar for the upcoming year. Some activities include wine tasting, a trip to the pumpkin patch, a ladies ornament swap, our infamous Christmas party, a men's golf outing and many other fun things.

Our class is starting something called "Third Thursday". This will be a family friendly dinner on the third Thursday of each month. We will meet at 5:30 at a local restaurant. For September, we will meet at Jason's Deli in Hoover. We sure hope to see everyone there.

I will try to post a calendar of events soon (as soon as I figure out how!).

Please remember all of those people on our prayer list. We have so many who need our prayers and could use a miracle in their lives. We all have personally known what the power of prayer can do. Have a blessed week and a safe Labor Day weekend!!
